My Quiet Offering... What Wants More of Your Life?
"There are years that ask questions and years that answer."
What Wants More of Your Life?
As women move through midlife and beyond, a quiet question often begins to emerge.
Not a question about achievement.
Not a question about productivity.
Not even a question about success.
A question about being and feeling alive.
What wants more of your life now?
For some women, it is creativity.
For others, it is freedom.
For others, it is rest, adventure, community, purpose, learning, love, or self-expression.
Often, there is nothing "wrong" with our lives. We may have built meaningful careers, raised families, fulfilled responsibilities, and shown up for countless people along the way.
Yet something inside us begins to ask for attention.
Not because we have failed.
Because we are still growing.
As novelist Toni Morrison wrote:
"You are your best thing."
I've always loved that reminder. It invites us to stop looking outside ourselves for validation and begin listening more closely to our own wisdom.
Perhaps one of the gifts of this season is the opportunity to ask:
What do I need now?
Not ten years ago.
Not twenty years ago.
Not what others need from me.
What do I need now?
...And Hurston's line gives women permission to be in the questioning, without rushing to an answer.
A Few Questions for Reflection
As we fully reflect on the changing season, I invite you to spend some time with these questions:
- What part of my life feels most aligned right now?
- What part feels ready for change?
- What have I been curious about that I haven't given myself permission to explore?
- Where have I outgrown an old expectation, role, or identity?
- What brings me energy, joy, or a sense of possibility?
- If I trusted myself more deeply, what might I choose next?
Don't rush to answer these questions.
Simply notice what emerges.
A Different Way of Thinking About the Next Chapter
Many of us have been taught to think of later life as a period of limitation.
What if we viewed it differently?
What if this season is not about becoming someone new, but about becoming more fully ourselves?
What if freedom is not the absence of responsibility but the ability to make choices that reflect our values?
What if purpose is not something we find once and for all, but something we continue to cultivate throughout our lives?
What if there is still room for new dreams?
Personal Reflection
As you move through the month ahead, carry this question with you:
What wants more of my life in this season?
Listen carefully.
The answer may already be waiting.
Warmly,
Sunya
