Trust and Renewal in Uncertain Times
Happy New Year!
For me, the new year begins not in January, but with the first day of Spring. Guided by my mother’s and grandmother’s affinity for the moon’s cycles, and shaped by weekends on my grandparents’ small farm in Kansas, I learned to organize life around nature’s rhythms. Bathing outside under the light of the moon and the twinkling stars grounded me in a trust of the elements—an unshakable faith that I am always supported.
These are not normal times. War, rising gas prices, and the dissolution of systems have left many walking around with anxiety and confused emotions—often with no way to name them. This collective malaise is real, can you feel it? Y/our feelings deserve to be acknowledged.
In the face of destruction and deconstruction- how do we find renewal? For me, the answer is both in nature and in community. The earth continues its cycles. The moon waxes and wanes. Spring arrives, carrying the promise of rebirth. And alongside these rhythms, we need each other. Community sustains us when systems falter. It reminds us that peace is not found in isolation, but in shared care, in the presence of others who hold us when the world feels heavy.
This month, I invite you to reflect:
How do you acknowledge your own anxiety without letting it consume you?
- Where can you turn to nature, ritual, or memory to find peace?
- How does community help you carry the weight of these times?
Trust is the soil where peace can grow. Renewal is the bloom that rises even in the shadow of destruction. And community is the garden where we sustain one another.
I'm thinking about conversations, and intentional support. I'm wondering about ways we can hear and be with one another. Ways we as Black women can engage while we continue staying in the house and getting our rest.
...I'll reach out again soon.
With faith in the elements, and gratitude for community,
Happy New Year and Happy Spring!
