June 19, 2025

Dear Sunya,

160 years ago,  today on June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the emancipation of all slaves in the state, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. This moment marked a pivotal point in American history, symbolizing freedom and the end of slavery.

Ties to Today's Struggles and Triumphs
The spirit of Juneteenth continues to resonate today, because as Black women:

1. We still fight for economic empowerment as we break down barriers to financial freedom and equality.
2. We still demand justice and equality as we advocate for systemic change and human rights.
and...
3. We still celebrate cultural heritage as we embrace our history, traditions, and contributions.

Reflection and Action
As we commemorate Juneteenth, let's reflect on:

1. Our ancestors' resilience: Drawing strength from their courage and determination.
2. Our collective power: Uniting to drive progress and create positive change.
3. Our individual journeys: Embracing self-care, self-love, personal, and financial growth.

Let's explore ways to prioritize your well-being and empowerment; dive deeply into rest and learn about lasting ways to get off the never-ending wheel of hustle, grind, and production. Let's break free of tying our self-worth to our accomplishments (which is another form of production).
